Solid wood bookcases from England
Basically, all antique bookcases were made of solid woods. English solid wood bookcases are not only solid, often the surfaces are refined by excellent veneers and provided with wonderful inlays. At that time, as well as today, detailed work and elaborate glazing (in some cases up to 16 differently sized panes are used and cemented per pane) make a special difference. What makes the solid wood bookcase from England even more special is the hand-polished surface with shellac. In Germany, it is quite hard to find a polisher who is capable of this type of refinement. Therefore, we have our solid wood bookcases restored exclusively in England.
Made-to-measure English bookcase: Globe Wernicke, Heldense and Bevan Funnell
Our good relationships to English traditional workshops allow us to create an individually measured and designed English bookcase. These unique pieces are also characterized by a hand-polished surface, beautiful ribbon inlays and an elaborate glazing. The companies Heldense and Bevan Funnell cultivated this style in the 1970s and 1980s. Besides our individually and authentically created Heldense and Bevan Funnell style furniture, we also offer the typical made-to-measure bookcase by Globe Wernicke: With glass panes and the possibility to dismantle and again stick together all the particular elements of one English bookcase.
