Antique chairs from England are nowadays rarely found as complete sets. We are pleased to offer you some single antique chairs to collect or to use as a desk chair. Antique mahogany chairs
We are particularly proud of our collection of antique mahogany chairs. Antique chairs often have extensive band intarsia on the back and legs and reveal the best carpenter art. Today, due to the lack of stored mahogany wood, it is almost impossible to get such chairs, let alone make them. That's why antique chairs are so precious and popular among those who appreciate finest solid wood. Mahogany is known for its great sturdiness and its beautiful reddish colour. It is now famous as an extraordinary valuable high-grade wood. Mahogany chairs therefore, especially when they are still in a great condition and have good fabric and upholstery, are enormously popular not only among collectors.
Antique dining chairs and desk chairs
There are a lot of variations of antique chairs. In the 16th and 17th century, the rustic oak chair was built, mostly with armrests. They are often used as desk chairs. In the 18th century, the oak was then replaced by mahogany and made in the designs of Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton. Most famous antique dining chairs are to be found in that style. Basically you can use almost all kinds of chairs for everything: Either as antique dining chairs or as desk chairs. But it is most likely that people will use the wider and more upholstered chairs mit armrests as desk chairs while they use more narrow chairs without armrests as dining chairs. Anyway both kind of chairs are comfortable and sturdy. That is indeed the typical nature of antique furniture.
